Synopsis

Every night, when the museum closes its doors, three drops of paint come to life in the paintings of Joan Miró to immerse themselves in the inexhaustible universe of art and imagination. This is the starting point for the Mironins, three inseparable friends, to live thrilling adventures traveling from one painting to another and meeting a host of characters as surreal as they are unforgettable. ‘Mironins’ won the Gaudí Award for Best Animated Film and was nominated for the Goya Award in 2021.

Created by Mikel Mas Bilbao and Celia Rico Clavellino, ‘Mironins’ is an invitation to a different world, where you will have to let yourself be carried away only by your imagination. Undoubtedly, a perfect opportunity for the little ones to have fun while exploring the work of one of the great figures of twentieth century art.

Did you know that…

The visual proposal of ‘Mironins’ follows the aesthetics and motifs of the universe of the painter Joan Miró.

CHARACTER DESIGN

Blu

Charming, sensitive and tender. He always likes to be in the company of his friends. Blu, who looks like a three year old child, is very in touch with his emotions and either gets super happy and laughs without reserve or starts crying as if the world is coming to an end for any trifle. He is quite sleepy and the most absent-minded of all. In fact, he tends to get lost in the museum.

Low

The most perceptive. Always has a good idea or a suitable gadget for every occasion. They have a different view of reality that will get them out of many problems, but will also cause others. With an enterprising and critical spirit, she acts as if she were an eight-year-old girl, but she is also a bit of a whiner. She has huge glasses without which she can’t see.

Ro

No one beats Ro and her skates at speed! Her strength knows no bounds and she can lift almost any object. He takes action before he thinks, and that sometimes gets him into trouble. She has no shame and loves to clown around in front of her friends… or the first person who passes by. She is somewhat self-centred but has a good heart. Like a five year old: fearless and made of pure energy.

ENVIRONMENT DESIGN

Frames

TRANSMEDIA

Mironins project expands into transmedia, using a variety of physical and digital technologies to connect, engage and educate children and their families about the art and creativity of Joan Miró. Through books, interactive experiences and augmented reality, Mironins allows them to explore Miró’s artistic world while fostering their own creativity in the environment of the Joan Miró Fundation and beyond. Get ready to discover his universe!

The new museum guides

The Mironins project developed an augmented and interactive reality platform to create a new digital environment within the Joan Miró Foundation, where the Mironins encourage children to discover the world of art and develop their artistic skills while having fun.

Play with the Mironins!

We will produce an interactive game entitled “The Challenges of Art” which will be directly related to the storylines of the series. The game will inspire children, encourage their imagination and make artistic and creative practice one of the most fun and constructive activities in their daily lives.

ArtLab

A series of art workshops aimed at the youngest members of the family and organised in collaboration with museums, schools, libraries and bookshops. The activities will allow children to experiment with a variety of techniques and become little creators with the help of the Mironins themselves and various guest artists.

The book of Mironins

“Mironins, un libro para jugar y aprender con Joan Miró”, published by Gustavo Gili, is available in five languages in various bookshops and online shops such as the Fundació Joan Miró, the Museo Reina Sofía and La Central. So far, the book has sold more than 10,000 copies.

EXTRAS

The studios behind Mironins went to present the original series to its real audience: cartoon-loving children! The appointment was in Amsterdam during September 2015, within the CineKid Festival, the largest film and media festival for children in the world. That evening, they were the stars of the show!
